This collection houses financial papers, correspondence, land grants, and other materials documenting the Lenoir family of East Tennessee and North Carolina. These items describe the family's involvement with land in North Carolina and Tennessee, slavery, manufacturing, and the Confederate States of America.

This collection consists of correspondence from Levi Dysinger, a Union soldier, to his wife Harriet in Paulding County, Ohio. The letters are written from Huntsville, Alabama and date from March to May of 1865. They recount how Private Dysinger's brothers, Henry and Isaac, contracted (and eventually died from) measles while soldiers.

In this letter, Lide Bostwick discusses life on the northern home front during the Civil War. She mentions illnesses and deaths in the family (including the death of her brother Tip at the Battle of Stones River), her concerns for family and friends in the military, and the harm that "northern traitors" are causing.

Lieutenant General Leonidas Polk wrote this broadside, entitled A Proclamation. To All Soldiers, in This Department Absent from Their Commands Without Leave, from his headquarters in Demopolis, Alabama on April 16, 1864. In it, he offers to pardon soldiers who have deserted if they return to their commands.

This December 22, 1863, letter from William H. Mickle discusses his participation in the Knoxville campaign while serving in the New York 134th Infantry division. Mickle makes specific note of the condition of the company, mentioning the long marches and lack of equipment such as shoes. He goes on to write about Abraham Lincoln and the government boats traversing the Tennessee River towards Knoxville.

This collection consists of two service records from the Adjutant General's Office in Nashville, Tennessee for Logan Goodpasture, dated November 22, 1894. They confirm that he served with Company F of the 13th Regiment Tennessee Cavalry Volunteers during the Civil War.

This collection consists of nine letters and two printed bridge diagrams on silk regarding the rebuilding of the burned bridge crossing the Tennessee River at Loudon, Tennessee during the United States Civil War. In addition, the collection also contains two other Civil War era letters.

This collection consists of a Civil War Letter written by Lyman C. Flanders on April 26, 1864, from Knoxville. In the letter, Flanders asked his friend Huntington to go to Captain Mills' office to retrieve a favorite pistol taken from him at the Chattanooga Depot.

A single handwritten letter by Confederate soldier M. D. Wilson stationed at Cumberland Gap, TN on August 4, 1863.

M. H. Owen wrote this letter to his sister from Fort Pillow on March 22, 1862. In it, he describes his trip from Columbus, Kentucky to Fort Pillow and mentions the other regiments stationed there with him.

M. S. Charles began keeping this diary in 1863. In it, he describes battalion training and events that took place around Clarksville, Tennessee. Also included are half of a military pass, a scrap of paper reading Mr Littleton, and a poem clipped from an unidentified newspaper.

This collection contains three 1896 letters to and a U. S. Army 1891 leave of absence card for Major Thomas H. Hill. The letters discuss a Sequachee, Tenn., Sons of Veterans camp, and a petition for the U. S. Pension Agency.

A four-page handwritten letter, signed "MR" by Lieutenant Marcus Richardson, sent to Captain Joseph Washington Anderson. Written from Cumberland Gap, Tenn., the letter details the reconnaissance and skirmish that took place at Cumberland Gap in the days prior under the command of Major General Edmund Kirby Smith. The letter is dated March 23, 1862.
