The Dr. Hermes Grillo Oral History, 2002, is a typescript from an oral history interview with Dr. Hermes Grillo by Dr. Kurt Piehler and Crystal Dover of the University of Tennessee for the Veteran's Oral History Project conducted by the Center for the Study of War and Society. The interview focuses primarily on his World War II experiences, but also covers pre-war and post-war periods. Dr. Grillo shares the experience of surgery on the war front.

Erastus Edward Strobino Journal

Abstract

Major Erastus Edward Strobino, M.D. kept a travelogue/nature journal while serving with the Americal Division (23rd Infantry Division) at the 109th Station Hospital in New Caledonia from 1942 to 1943. In the journal, he describes the native flora and fauna on the island, and writes about the indigenous diseases and medicine, constellations, and other scientific and nature-related topics.

Overview

This collection contains papers documenting the World War II service of nurse Grace E. Farley. Included are Farley's handwritten memoirs (approximately 20 pages) of her wartime service. Also included are 12 photographs; these photographs are photocopies but do included captions and handwritten notes by Farley.

Laurence A. Grossman Memoirs

Matt Chitwood Collection

Overview

This collection documents the World War II service of Matt Chitwood and contains a letter, a photograph of Chitwood during his service, and a newsletter from USS Taylor. The letter, handwritten and five pages in length, was written in 1997 by Chitwood and includes some remembrances of the war and his time at the 83rd Field Hospital, particularly working with German POWs.

Neal O'Steen Oral History
