Abstract

This pamphlet was published by the Confederate Survivors Association in 1893. It includes transcripts of a speech on the Battle of Chickamauga and military operations in the state of Georgia given by Colonel Joseph B. Cumming on April 26th, 1893 at the association's annual meeting in Augusta, Georgia.

Elizabeth Baker Crozier Journal

Abstract In this journal, Elizabeth (Baker) Crozier describes life in Knoxville during the siege of 1863. She recounts Union troops plundering and burning her home as well as destroying the homes of her friends and neighbors. She also recalls the kindness of others as she and her husband attempted to reestablish a home and life for their family. General Edward M. McCook Letter

Abstract General Edward M. McCook wrote this letter from the headquarters of the 1st Cavalry Division in Macon, Georgia to an unidentified friend in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 1, 1865. He reports that during his latest expedition, the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Cavalry under the command of Brevet Major General Wilson captured Selma, Tuscaloosa, Columbus, Montgomery, West Point, and Macon. Henry Drake Letter and Photograph

Abstract

Henry Drake, a fighting sutler with the 107th New York Infantry, wrote this letter from camp near Dallas, Georgia on June 1, 1864. In it, he details his unit's march to their current location and recounts their subsequent battles with Confederate soldiers. The letter also describes the death of Drake's fellow soldier and friend Will E. Vanauken, who Drake says he may have loved and thought too much of. Also included is an undated photograph of Drake.

John M. Kelly Diary and Other Materials

Abstract This collection consists primarily of the 110-page diary that John M. Kelly kept while serving with the 141st New York Infantry Regiment. In it, he speaks of the weather conditions, his activities, and troop movements, including his unit's march south to join General Ulysses S. Grant's forces in Chattanooga and their later participation in Major General William T. Sherman's campaigns in the Carolinas. Also included are two pension certificates.
