Henry McCalley Letter
This collection contains a letter written by geologist Henry McCalley to his brother William dated Pleasant View, August 29. The letter details McCalley's travels from Memphis, Tennessee down the Mississippi River and then from New Orleans, Louisiana to eastern Texas. He describes in detail his stays in the cities of Galveston, Victoria, and Goliad, Texas.
John Thompson Diary
This collection consists of a handwritten diary of John Thompson's with entries dated between 1803-1811. Included is a travel account of Thompson's journey by boat from Nashville, Tennessee, to New Orleans, Louisiana, and his return on land via the Natchez Trace. Other entries include recipes, remedies, and miscellaneous tales. Typed notes about his entries accompanies the diary.
