Biographical / Historical

The Tennessee Company was created by Zachariah Cox in an attempt to settle Northern Alabama and Georgia and East Tennessee. Cox was likely born in 1765 and acted as a land surveyor before moving on to larger business ventures. He was involved in several political schemes in Georgia and Tennessee, eventually leading to his arrest in Nashville. He moved back to Virginia in his later years and died in 1838. No biographical information is available for Matthias Maber.
