This collection houses a letter and two posters documenting William E. Gillenwaters' work as deputy warden of the Tennessee State Prison in Nashville during the early 20th century. The letter is addressed to the Sheriff of Knox County and discusses three convicts, James Reed, J. D. Coleman, and Will Coleman. The two posters warn the public of two convicts at large, Martin Brophy, alias John Leonard (with photograph), and Marshall Ladson.

William E. VanAuken of Company D of the 107th New York Infantry wrote this letter to his sister and brother-in-law from Shelbyville, Tennessee on January 7, 1863. In it, he discusses the weather and mentions that the 145th N.Y. Volunteers have recently been disbanded, saying that "Their is one company here with us now. They we got up in New York. They are Bowery Boys..." The letter is fairly brief and includes the envelope.

This collection consists of one folder with six chapters of the manuscript for In Service to the State: A History of University of Tennessee, 1794-1934 by James D. Hoskins and William E. Cole published in 1941.

This collection contains the personal correspondence, memorabilia, and newspaper clippings of William F. Baggerman during his career in the United States Army Air Corps during World War Two. Most of the collection is correspondence between Baggerman and his family, comprised of concerns for family business and the situation at home. The collection spans from early in basic training until the end of the war.

This collection includes a 20-page typescript personal narrative of William Bopp’s experiences in World War II. Written in 1990, Bopp recounts his beginnings and training with the military, his experiences overseas in Europe during the war, through his discharge in 1945 and return home.

Also included is a copy of Bopp’s honorable discharge certificate from 1945, and a copy of the “Company A Newsletter” from September 1991 for which Bopp authored the main text.

This collection consists of a strip of Nazi propaganda film gathered by William F. Larsen while serving in the military during World War II. The film was found among debris near Kitzingen, Germany in April 1945.

In this broadside, William Foust explains why he didn’t attend the political convention as part of his campaign for the Tennessee House of Representatives.

This certificate, signed by William G. Brownlow on April 10, 1866, appoints Joseph C. Gold a Justice of the Peace in Montgomery County, Tennessee.

Brownlow published this circular for the "Loyal Men of Tennessee" to protest the appointment of General Longstreet as Surveyor of Customs for the Port of New Orleans and to refute Andrew Johnson's suggestion that he had received funds from Johnson to start a Union newspaper in Knoxville.

This collection consists of two undated cartes de visite bearing portraits of William G. Brownlow, one carte de visite depicting Parson Brownlow's Daughter, and two undated envelopes printed with William G. Brownlow's portrait and pro-Union quotes.

This collection contains a letter from William G. Parson Brownlow, dated June 15, 1863, to Colonel Truesdail, Chief of Army Police. Brownlow, then serving as an Assistant Special Agent for the Treasury Department, discusses the trade of cotton and the seizure of nine casks of Bacon belonging to an Alabama Rebel.

In this letter, Parson Brownlow reports that he has just returned to Cincinnati (where he lived while in exile from East Tennessee) from Louisville and Frankfort. He also mentions that he has been sick with a bilious attack and states that he has received about twenty tickets in response to our letters.

This April 3, 1866, letter was written by William G. Brownlow in Knoxville, Tennessee during his time as governor. In this short handwritten letter, Brownlow gives his support to Congress on an unspecified matter instead of President Andrew Johnson.

In this letter to his publisher, George W. Childs, William G. Brownlow describes conditions in Tennessee following his recent visit and compliments Childs on his recently published National Almanac.

This collection consists primarily of letters documenting William Gannaway Parson Brownlow's service as Governor of Tennessee and showing the problems that Tennessee faced during the Civil War and Reconstruction. Also included are letters to and from Brownlow's son, John Bell Brownlow.

This collection consists of a Tennessee Bonds Circular dated May 9, 1866 and signed by Governor William G. Brownlow. In addition, the collection also contains an Executive Department envelope that includes an image of the Tennessee seal.

This collection consists of one letter written by William G. Campbell of Abingdon, Virginia to Moses White of Knoxville, Tennessee on January 16, 1848.

These papers document the military training and career of William G. Keen, an Army Air Force lieutenant who served in Europe during and after World War II. The collection includes several years of correspondence, training documents, professional photos, issues of many different magazines and newspapers from his various posts, as well as an assortment of memorabilia saved from service and travel.
