Scope and Contents Note From the Collection:

This recordkeeping book is from a blacksmith dated from January 1 to August 5, 1848. There are many pages missing, and the owner is unnamed. A note on the first intact page, however, indicates that the book is from Henning, Lauderdale County, Tennessee.

The pages, dated at the top, include the names of customers and expenses along with total paid. The insides of the covers have notes and drawings in them.

Scope and Contents Note From the Collection: This diary was written by E. P. Nelson from January to August 1871, with financial records in the first few pages from 1858 to 1860.Entries, which are almost daily, discuss his family and business affairs, including that of his wife's family's farm, and usually begin with "Secret & family devotion - attended to stock Etc." Scope and Contents Note From the Collection:

Sallie Morgan House Ewin used this notebook to record the song lyrics to popular songs in the American South during the time of the Civil War, as well as some of her own notes.

Some pieces also may be her own songs or poems regarding the South and the Civil War, notably Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. Only one entry is dated (1867), but the front inside cover is dated 1863 and 1864.

Scope and Contents Note From the Collection: This collection consists of a bound, handwritten, and illustrated memoir, written by W. J. Worsham, recording the history of the Old 19th Tennessee Regiment of the Confederate States of America, which was based in Knoxville, Tennessee. The book was dedicated in 1902 to the survivors and fallen soldiers of the regiment, according to a written note from the author.The beginning of the book discusses the location and organization of the regiment, including officers and companies....
