Scope and Contents From the Collection:

This collection contains photographs taken by James Judd during his World War II military service. Included are approximately 180 black-and-white photographs that document Judd’s time in training and overseas, specifically in France and England. Many of the images showcase bridges, planes, and ships in these areas. A portion of the photographs have been numbered and include a typed caption list.

The first is entitled “Ordeal of Arms: Air Combat, Europe and the Balkans” (1993) and is over 200 pages of a typed narrative with copies of illustrations and newspaper articles. Also included is a chronological list of missions Perkins flew in the preface of the manuscript. The second writing is entitled “Recollections of Air Combat” (1996) and is over 100 typed pages of poems...

James D. Hutchison Memoir, 1990

Scope and Contents From the Collection:

This collection contains one copy of James Hutchison’s memoir, “The Love of a Sailor for His Ship." The publication chronicles Hutchison’s military service in World War II serving on the USS Colorado. Hutchison originally published this work in 1980 using his diary from the war as inspiration. The book includes his narrative alongside copies of photographs and letters. This copy includes a handwritten note from Hutchison at the front of the book from 1990.

Rex F. Jackson Papers on USS Iowa, 1945

This collection, compiled by World War II service member Rex Jackson, contains material related to the USS Iowa. Included is a photograph of the ship; an issue of “USS Iowa Radio Press News” (August 28, 1945); a program “Navy Day” aboard the ship (October 27, 1945); and a copy of a newspaper article detailing the five men from Greeneville, including Jackson, serving on the Iowa.
