Scope and Contents Note From the Collection:

This collection consists primarily of a Testimonial of Service that the Louisville & Nashville Railroad Company presented to Albert Emil Staub when he retired on December 31, 1947 after 43 years of service. Also included are five snapshots of Staub and his wife, a clipping from the L & N Magazine, and a service book from Staub's funeral.

Scope and Contents Note From the Collection: This collection consists of twelve letters that William Howard wrote to his sister Sallie while he served in the Union army aboard the USS Brilliant. The letters are primarily concerned with personal matters, especially William's complaints that no one but Sallie writes to him, but he does describe battles and other war news occasionally. His April 6, 1863 letter is addressed from outside of Gnashville, and the final letter is addressed from the U.S. hospital ship Home...

Colonel James F. Rusling Papers, 1862 May 22, 1865 May 12-1866 May 26

Scope and Contents Note From the Collection:

This collection consists of 62 documents showing James Rusling's career as Inspector of the Quarter Master Department. Many of these papers concern allegations of fraud in Chattanooga and efforts to reduce supplies and personnel after the Civil War had ended. A few letters concern Rusling's orders and promotions; the rest deal with receipts, personnel, and inventories.

Hardin P. Shannon Letter, 1845 June 3

Scope and Contents Note From the Collection:

This letter, to Harmon G. Lea, shares Hardin Shannon's concerns about the upcoming election for representative from Grainger County, Tennessee, and discusses Shannon's affiliation with the Whig Party. Shannon is particularly worried that Colonel Cleveland and Esquire Moore will manipulate the election to Shannon's detriment so that Cleveland will be elected.

John H. Crozier Letter, 1848 January 28

Scope and Contents Note From the Collection:

In this letter to William S. McEwen, John Crozier writes that he will do his best to get a new mail route from Kingston to Athens, Tennessee, through Congress. Until then, the Postmaster General would probably let someone do it for the revenue generated from its postage. Crozier then asks McEwen to share the contents of this letter with other interested parties in the area.
