This collection consists of the last will and testament of Gabriel Jones, dated September 3, 1776. The will divides up Jones' assets, including enslaved persons, land, and livestock, amongst his wife, his daughter from his first marriage, and his four children from his second marriage.

This collection features a letter written by Admiral David G. Farragut to Secretary of the Navy Isaac Toucey, dated September 25, 1860. The letter addresses Farragut's concern that the Department of the Navy was displeased with him as they had placed orders virtually putting Farragut's ship, the USS Brooklyn, under the authority of Captain Engle, Farragut's subordinate.

Scope and Contents Note From the Collection:

This collection contains a letter from H. L. Rich in East Tennessee to Horace Thomson in Farmington, Connecticut. The letter is dated July 7, 1834. Rich asks Thomson and other old friends from Connecticut to continue to supply Rich's Sabbath School with supplies, such as school books, as well as monetary donations.

State of Alabama Stock Certificate, 1861 March 1

Scope and Contents Note From the Collection:

This collection consists of Stock Certificate No. 123 issued for military defense by the State of Alabama to the Office of the Treasurer. The certificate is from after Alabama joined the Confederate States of America and is dated March 1, 1861. The certificate is for five hundred dollars at a rate of eight per cent. There are also several smaller stock certificates paying the bearer forty dollars, or one year's interest, on Certificate No. 123.
