Robert M. Kepner Letter

Abstract

Robert Kepner wrote this letter to his sisters, Ellen and Mary, while he was stationed at Fort Donelson, Tennessee, during the Civil War. In it, he complains of being ill, thanks them for the books they sent, and informs them that he can buy books for 25 cents or just take them from the "Rebel camps" for free.

Robert T. Jones Letters

Abstract

This collection houses fourteen letters sent to Robert T. Jones by friends and family serving in the Civil War. Ten of the letters are from James Thomas, and the others were written by John Williams, Daniel Thomas, and John T. Jones. Several of the letters describe the siege of Vicksburg and other battles. Most of the letters include news of other Welsh friends from Iowa. The collection also houses two photographs, one showing cannons and the other showing soldiers near rows of tents.

Robert W. Daniel Letters

Abstract

This collection includes 11 handwritten and typed letters from 1937-1953. The earliest letters, from the 1930s, are addressed to Henry J. W. Milley and are in relation to his work on English author Wilkie Collins. The remaining letters are addressed to Robert W. Daniel about his work. Notable correspondents to Daniel include American authors Eudora Welty, Allen Tate, and John Crowe Ransom.

Roberta A. Scull Papers on Lexemuel Ray Hesler

This collection consists of a letter from Samuel K. Carrigan, sent on May 25, 1862 from Camp Mag Hill near Chattanooga, to his brother William A. Carrigan in Society Hill, South Carolina. He discusses his discontent with his fellow solider's irreligiousness and his desire to transfer into another unit, as well as the fighting in which he was involved.

Sarah Childress Polk Letter to General James Grant Wilson

Overview

Collection contains a two page letter written by Sarah Childress Polk on February 27, 1888. The letter, a response to General James Grant Wilson discusses a photograph of Sarah's husband, the late James K. Polk, about which the general had previously inquired. Polk explains in her letter that the photograph in question was taken a few months before her husband's death.
