This collection contains a single handwritten letter from General Edmund Kirby Smith, writing from Knoxville, Tenn. on August 10, 1862, to Brigadier General Thomas Jordan, in Chattanooga, Tenn. The letter includes information on Union General Don Carlos Buell's forces via General John H. Morgan.

This Civil War letter was written from General John M. Schofield to Brigadier General Jacob Ammen on September 19, 1864. The letter requests that Ammen and his 4th Div. 23rd Corps support the raid on the town of Saltville in southwestern Virginia, resulting in the Battle of Saltville on October 2, 1864.

In a letter written February 4, 1865 from the Officers' Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn., to Colonel Cross, George W. Douglas writes concerning his desire for an artifical leg to help him walk.

In this letter to his sister, Rebecca F. Ross, George W. Ross relates news about his service with the Indiana 8th Cavalry. This letter was mailed from Nashville, Tennessee.

This collection consists of an envelope and four pages of correspondence, written by George Whittington, from Base hospital #7 in France to Eddie A. Snow of Boston, Massachusetts. The letter was written on Armistice Day, November 11, 1918 and is on American Expeditionary Force letterhead.

This collection includes a letter written by H. G. Wax to ‘Cousin App.' It is dated February 25, 1865 and from Mill Bend located in Hawkins County, Tennessee.

This collection contains a copy of "Hal Holmes: The War Years--WWII," a biography of Holmes written by his wife, Margarette Harrison Holmes, in 1990. The bulk of the book contains photocopies of letters Holmes penned to his wife during his wartime service. Also included are photocopies of photographs and newspaper clippings in addition to biographical information about Holmes. The book is approximately 400 pages in length.
