In this pamphlet, W. Russell Briscoe describes the history of Knoxville's Kingston Pike from its beginnings in 1792 through approximately 1975.

Collection contains the diary of Thomas Francis Fitzgerald for the calendar year of 1903. Fitzgerald documented some aspects of his life every day of the year with entries regarding the weather, road conditions, people he visited, what he ate for dinner, and anything else he might have done that day.

Tilghman Haws and his son Kenneth compiled this scrapbook of Knoxville newspaper articles, receipts, Confederate money, and a Civil War letter between 1861 and 1920.

The W. Gibbs McAdoo letter, written November 8, 1860, describes the mood in Knoxville, Tenn., after Lincoln's election. He also tells of an incident in which someone tied a tin bucket and a note reading "Going out of the Union" to a dog and turned it loose on Gay Street.

Dr. W. S. Austin used this ledger to document his work as a physician in Knoxville, Tennessee between 1905 and 1918, including some transactions made through the Tennessee Medical College and records of his salary. Also included is an index to the ledger organized by patient surname.

This collection houses two letters that Union soldier Watson B. Smith wrote to his mother, Mary Amanda (Birchard) Smith, on September 23, 1863 and October 1, 1863. In them, Smith discusses Union operations in the Knoxville Campaign, life in headquarters, and news from the Battle of Chattanooga.

This collection houses four letters written to Major William C. Mynatt in Knoxville, Tennessee. The majority discuss federal taxes and pensions, but one announces an engagement.

This collection consists primarily of letters documenting William Gannaway Parson Brownlow's service as Governor of Tennessee and showing the problems that Tennessee faced during the Civil War and Reconstruction. Also included are letters to and from Brownlow's son, John Bell Brownlow.

Two versions of William Gibbs McAdoo's diary documenting his life from 1846 to 1894. McAdoo wrote this diary and series of letters during the Mexican War, Civil War, and through his later years until 1894. Volume 1 is the draft version of the compilation of these extracts and Volume 2 is the final version.

William M. Cloer, a private in the 62nd North Carolina Infantry (CSA), wrote this letter to friends at home from Morristown, Tennessee on June 24, 1863. He discusses recent Yankee raids in Tennessee, specifically those made during the push towards Knoxville, and his regiment's upcoming move to Cumberland Gap.

William Quail Johnston used the first notebook in this collection while he was a student in the University of Tennessee's Pharmacy program between 1900 and 1903. It consists primarily of instructions for mixing various medicines and creams, including the names and amounts of the requisite chemicals. Johnston compiled the second notebook, which contains instructions for mixing various cleansers, beauty aids, and medicines, while working for the Market Square Drug Company.

This collection houses a letter from William Shackelford, a Union Civil War soldier, to his mother. In it, the writer details his thoughts of what the fate of Jefferson Davis ought to be now that Davis is imprisoned.
