Reinhold Nordsieck Research Collection

Abstract

This collection includes drawings, notes, wood blocks, plans, and other materials relating to Dr. Reinhold Nordsieck's research into the staging of the Passion Play at Bozen in 1514. Also included in the collection: German and American newspapers; a leaf from a Persian manuscript, possibly from the late 16th century; and three folia from a monastic antiphonal, probably created in the 15th century.

Psalter in Manuscript on Parchment, Spain, 16th Century

Abstract

This psalter contains 193 vellum leaves, hand-lettered using intricate blue, red, and violet initials at the beginning of each page. A colophon written in old Spanish roughly translates to “Prepared for the Prior of the convent, the very Reverend Father. Presented by Brother Juasotelo who wrote this book by hand in the year 1586.” The psalter is written in Latin and possibly has origins in a Spanish monastery.

This collection houses materials documenting the murder of University of Tennessee graduate Sam Y. Parker by Judge James E. Fulton of Helenwood, Tennessee in 1906. Newspaper clippings and correspondence between the trial lawyers document the entire saga in detail. Other material includes research into the history of the Newman and Parker families, a Civil War diary, photographs, a family Bible, mementos, and personal items.

This collection of manuscript materials does not include rough drafts or notes from Patricia Cornwell’s own writing. It consists of materials she collected as part of her very extensive research. In addition to notebooks, pamphlets, and newspaper articles about Medicine and Crime, it includes primary source documents about the abolition movement, suffragettes, Prince Albert-Victor and other 19th century celebrities, education, and literature.

Society of Friends Letter

Abstract

This broadside reprints the letter that the Quakers in London wrote to King George I, followed by his brief reply. In their letter, they praised his justice and clemency, assured him of their loyalty and obedience, and expressed their sorrow over the ungrateful men of the recent rebellion. King George responded with a single sentence of appreciation.

Japanese Picture Book

Abstract This 117-page book is filled with woodblock illustrations and Japanese calligraphy. Most pages have approximately 70% text but there are several two-page illustrations at the back of the book depicting the process of making fabric. Abstract A letter from James Crokatt to a "Mr. Smyth" dated May 6, 1761. Crockatt wrote this letter to someone he was representing in negotiations for a possible purchase from Mrs. Dick.
