Abstract The first document housed in this collection is a copy of a legal agreement dated April 1840 between William Donelson, Stockley Donelson and Andrew Jackson detailing the construction of a route from Jones Bend to the Nashville & Lebanon Turnpike through Jackson's land. On the back are Andrew Jackson's comments, dated October 7, 1844, declaring the copy false. Abstract This collection consists primarily of a list of payments, dated September 21, 1818, made on Andrew Jackson's plantation at Melton's Bluff, Alabama. The first seven entries are written by Richard Massey (the plantation's overseer); the remainder of the list is written in Jackson's hand. Also included are five manuscript receipts from Melton's Bluff dating from April 1 to September 21, 1818. This collection consists of an Andrew Jackson framed plaque that includes a 1980 painting by R. Dobson, a dinner invitation to John Clayton who later became Secretary of State under President Zachary Taylor, a note penned to Secretary of the Treasury, a printed copy of the December 3, 1933 Annual Message to Congress, and a coin with Andrew Jackson's likeness.

Overview

This collection contains a single document signed by Andrew Johnson, Tennessee’s Military Governor at the time, and Edward H. East, the Military Secretary of State from 1862-65, under Union occupation during the Civil War. It appoints William Harris of Jefferson County as 1st Lieutenant in the 3rd Regiment of the [11th] Infantry of Tennessee Volunteers for 100 days (rather than the three years that is printed on the page). It was signed on September 19, 1864.

Abstract

This circular, entitled Appeal to the People of Tennessee, begins with a brief history of Tennessee's recent history that leads to Johnson announcing his appointment as military governor of the state. Within this role, he invites the citizens to support his government appointments until an election can be held, and promises amnesty for all who yield to the authority of the national government. He assures them that there will be no vindictive prosecutions.

Abstract

This collection consists of two documents signed by Andrew Johnson, then Governor of Tennessee, in 1863 and 1864. The first certificate appoints Thomas J. Cypert Captain in the Regiment of Union Guards of Tennessee Volunteers, and the second appoints James M. Moore First Lieutenant of Company A in the Second Regiment of the Mounted Infantry of Tennessee.

This small pink flyer announces the intention of Andrew J. Patterson to sell the library, furniture, and property of his grandfather, the late Ex-President Andrew Johnson, on behalf of his aunt, Bessie M. Johnson. This lithograph records the senate's vote for impeachment, held on May 16 and May 26, 1868. It is signed by Salmon P. Chase, Chief Justice, and John W. Forney, Secretary. Below their names are listed 35 signatures of those voting guilty and 19 signatures of those voting not guilty.

Abstract These two tickets would have admitted the bearer to the gallery of the US Senate in order to watch the impeachment of President Andrew Johnson. Andrew Johnson Letter

Abstract

In this letter to Midleton Ewing Wilcox (1824-1901), Johnson acknowledges receipt of Wilcox's previous letters and reports that he has nominated Wilcox's brother for a position with the Post Office. He also comments on the current state of affairs in Washington, writing that there is much going on here in reference to President making - there are plots and counter-plots constantly going on with asperants.
