Scope and Contents Note From the Collection:

This collection houses fourteen letters sent to Robert T. Jones by friends and family serving in the Civil War. Ten of the letters are from James Thomas, and the others were written by John Williams, Daniel Thomas, and John T. Jones. Several of the letters describe the siege of Vicksburg and other battles. Most of the letters include news of other Welsh friends from Iowa. The collection also houses two photographs, one showing cannons and the other showing soldiers near rows of tents.

Scope and Contents Note From the Collection: This embossed scrapbook, filled with heartfelt letters from colleagues and former students, was assembled by Edith Jones and Geri Piper to celebrate Florence MacLeod's retirement from the University of Tennessee on September 1, 1962. Scope and Contents Note From the Collection: This collection consists of 46 photographs of train depots across Tennessee. With one exception, each image is identified by place and time, and a few have the photographer name on the back. The photograph of Spring City, taken by P. M. Darnell on June 6, 1964, also includes a note reading "Old-fashioned train robbery held - also, all train passengers fed free meal." P. S. Atchley Poem and Letters, 1866 April 21-1878 February 22

Scope and Contents Note From the Collection: This collection consists of a poem and two letters. P. S. Atchley wrote the poem, which describes a Union soldier saying goodbye to "Dear Brother Green" as he dies in battle, for Aunt Mariah Hodges on April 21, 1866. A typescript of this document is also present. The first letter, from Sister Julia in Marietta, Georgia, is dated April 28-29, 1882 and describes the reaction to Juan running off with the "married washerwoman."
