Manuals for the National Defense Committee

Civil War Camp Scene Sketch
This pencil sketch, drawn by an unknown amateur artist during the Civil War, depicts a high-ranking Union officer seated in his tent with a Union flag on the center post and another officer standing at attention. Two more soldiers can be seen standing guard and peeking around the corner of the tent and an African American boy is portrayed playing with a cat in the left foreground.

Collection consists of a type-written, soft-bound copy of the Civil War Diary of William J. Robinson, published in 1975, which focuses on the time Robinson spent as a prisoner on Johnson's Island from the time of his capture on September, 17, 1863, through March 6, 1865. The booklet also contains information concerning The Autograph Book of William E. DeMoss.

In it, he describes Union troop movements around Chattanooga and the hardships of crossing the river and marching. The letter may have been written by Private Andrew G.
