This collection contains the diary of Dr. Amos R. Garrison of Knoxville, Tennessee. Garrison's diary spans the years 1898 to 1902 with the bulk of the passages in reference to the people he met, the places he visited (including Chattanooga, TN; Louisville, KY; Salt Lake City, UT; and San Francisco, CA), and both his schooling and his teaching.

E. S. Chesbrough Letter

Abstract

E. S. Chesbrough wrote this letter to H. M. Nelson, a civil engineer in Faytteville, North Carolina, from Knoxville, Tennessee on June 12, 1837. In it, Chesbrough describes spending the night with a local family in a small cabin, mentions his duties as a surveyor, and discusses some church matters. This collection also houses a typewritten transcript of the original letter.

Elizabeth Baker Crozier Journal

Abstract In this journal, Elizabeth (Baker) Crozier describes life in Knoxville during the siege of 1863. She recounts Union troops plundering and burning her home as well as destroying the homes of her friends and neighbors. She also recalls the kindness of others as she and her husband attempted to reestablish a home and life for their family. In a small excerpt at the end, Crozier also writes of the death of her brother, Dr. Henry Baker, at the hands of Union troops. This document is a typewritten...

This collection houses a photograph album containing approximately 200 photographs taken by Elizabeth Vaughan Kennedy. Ephraim Tuttle Letter

Abstract

In this letter to his parents, Owen and Permelia (Cooper) Tuttle, Corporal Ephraim Tuttle discusses the Battle of Fort Sanders. He includes descriptions of Confederate casualties, estimating that the Confederate forces lost about 360 soldiers with approximately the same number taken prisoner. Tuttle goes on to detail skirmishes at Bean's Station, Blain's Crossroads, and Rockford and mentions the lack of supplies and struggles with commanding officers.

Food Inventory for General Simon Buckner's Division

Abstract

This collection consists of a Confederate food inventory from the Office of Chief Commissary of General Simon B. Bolivar's Division dated November 14, 1863. The inventory the thousands of pounds of beef, sugar, and bacon received between November 9 and November 14, 1864 as Confederate General James Longstreet's army was preparing for the attack on Knoxville, Tennessee.

Foster Arnett Oral History

Kurt Piehler and Johnny Goins for the Veteran's Oral History Project at the Center for the Study of War and Society.
