"Reminiscences of a Confederate Soldier"
This collection consists of articles written in the early 1900s by Confederate soldier Charles Stephen Olin "C.S.O." Rice's memories of events in the Civil War.
Reminiscences of the Civil War
and Newspaper Articles
T. J. Walker's handwritten, 98-page manuscript chronicles the time he spent with the 9th Tennessee Infantry between approximately 1861 and 1865. During his service, Walker was wounded five times and contracted dysentery and typhoid at Corinth, Mississippi.
Rhea Family Papers
This collection consists of material relating to the Rhea family of Sullivan County, Tennessee and covers the time period 1807-1931. Contained within the collection are Civil War-era records, John Rhea's financial transactions, Sons of Temperance financial transactions, material on Samuel Rhea's missionary trips to Persia, and John Rhea's correspondence. Also are included are Rhea genealogical material and various church records.
Richard M. Saffell Papers
A collection of letters between various members of the Saffell and Bogle families largely documenting their experiences during the Civil War. Of particular interest are the letters to and from Sam and Dick Saffell describing their service with the Confederate Army.
Robert A. Kerr Letter
Robert A. Kerr wrote this letter to a friend from Nashville, Tennessee on December 5, 1862. In it, he discusses his regiment's living conditions and describes some fighting in the area.
Robert A. Ragan Letters
This collection houses eight letters from Robert A. Ragan to his wife, Emeline (Neass) Ragan, during the Civil War. In them, Ragan discusses battles and skirmishes with the Rebels, describes the landscapes he has seen, relates his frustration with army life, mentions his fear of moving too far South, and comments on his unit's movements and actions. He also expresses his concern for his family and friends in Tennessee and asks Emeline to write to him and to pray for him in the struggle.

Robert M. McIntire Collection of Confederate Material
This collection consists of an autograph book of Confederate officers' signatures, compiled by Captain Robert M. McIntire while a prisoner of war at Johnson's Island in Lake Erie from 1863 to 1865. The collection also includes a twenty dollar bill issued by the Confederate States of America, two postcards featuring a silhouette of General Robert E. Lee on his horse Traveler, one postcard featuring The Only Confederate Drum Corps In Existence, and a Confederate battle flag pin.

Robert Neville Letter
Robert Neville wrote this letter to his wife, Mary (Atkinson) Neville, while he was serving with Company E of the 103rd Ohio Infantry near Knoxville, Tennessee. He tells his wife that his health is good, describes the region's enthusiastic reception of Union Soldiers, and expounds upon his religious views.
Robert T. Jones Letters
This collection houses fourteen letters sent to Robert T. Jones by friends and family serving in the Civil War. Ten of the letters are from James Thomas, and the others were written by John Williams, Daniel Thomas, and John T. Jones. Several of the letters describe the siege of Vicksburg and other battles. Most of the letters include news of other Welsh friends from Iowa. The collection also houses two photographs, one showing cannons and the other showing soldiers near rows of tents.
Rosecrans Letter to Medical Dept. G. O. No. 2
This letter is written by Rosecrans to a doctor at Medical Department Gen. Orders No. 2 on July 15th, 1863. It discusses military politics, the occupation of Knoxville by Bragg, and well wishes.
S. B. Moe Letter Regarding the Battle of Chickamauga
This collection consists of two letters written sixteen years apart. The first, possibly written around 1916, is by Colonel S. B. Moe describing his experiences during the Battle of Chickamauga in 1863. The letter was given to Anne Hyde, who wrote another letter in 1932 describing how she came into ownership of the first letter.
Sallie Morgan House Notebook
Sallie Morgan House Ewin used this notebook to record the song lyrics to popular songs in the American South during the time of the Civil War, as well as some of her own notes.
Sam House Letter
Sam House wrote this letter to his sister, Ellen, in Knoxville, Tennessee on September 8, 1862. In it, he discusses scarce food, quinine pills, guarding an old bridge, and the weather. House also mentions General Price and the old Scarecrow that they hope to catch. House closes his letter by replying to news of family members.
Samuel Andrew Baker Letters
This collection consists of two letters from Samuel Andrew Baker of Company E of the 44th Indiana Infantry written on January 28, 1862, and July 26, 1863. In the first letter, written to his father from South Carrollton, Kentucky, Baker discusses being fired upon while on guard duty. In the second letter, written to his brother-in-law from McMinnville, Tennessee, Baker mentions having his pocket picked while swimming and describes Fourth of July celebrations.
