Sam Balloff Oral History

Abstract

Collection consists of a 114-page bound interview from Veteran's Oral History Project conducted by the Center for the Study of War and Society, Department of History at the University of Tennessee. Balloff discusses his experieces as a young Jewish boy growing up in the South and as a soldier during World War II. During the war, he was assigned odd jobs, including grave registration and truck driving.

Stanley L. White Collection

This collection consists of a memoir, news articles, and photographs documenting the World War II service of Stanley L. White with the 392nd Bomb Group of the Eighth Air Force. The memoir is approximately 25 typed pages and details White’s experiences in the war between 1942 and 1945. The news clippings and photos are photocopies but include White’s handwritten captions and identifications.

This collection is a typewritten memoir by Robert Bracken detailing his experiences serving stateside with the Third Service Command during World War II. The memoir is 95 pages and though it was printed and completed in 1991, the text is based off of Bracken’s original manuscript written just after the war in 1946.

Thomas J. Curtin Memoir

The manuscript begins with a letter written to his children explaining his reasonings for writing down his memories of his wartime experiences. This collection contains W. E. (Bill) Warde's updated version of his memoir My Military Service which covers the time on the front lines in the European Theater (1944-1946). He recounts his experiences in various battles and gives details about the movements of his unit and what he describes as the "worst night of his life," when some of his fellow soldiers were captured and killed in Germany.
