Abstract

This collection contains some personal effects of Jasper Blue Friday of Jonesboro, Tenn. Included in the collection are orders instructing Friday to report for duty, documents pertaining to his life insurance policy, photographs, and some miscellaneous writings. Additionally, the collection contains a letter from the Veterans Administration pertaining to a disability claim for the disorder neurasthenia.

Jeanne Barkley Card File regarding University of Tennessee Students and Alumni Killed in World War II

Abstract

This card file, which Jeanne Barkley most likely created during her tenure as military records clerk, documents University of Tennessee students and alumni who were killed during World War II. Each card lists the deceased's full name, rank, date of birth, next of kin, home address, dates and campus of U. T. attendance, and academic program. Many of the cards also provide the date and cause of the soldier's death.

This collection consists of Dr. Jerome Jacobs' World War II memoirs, entitled Some Came Home. The bulk of the material documents the years from 1941 to 1945. Dr. Jacobs, a fighter pilot veteran, recounts his experiences training as a pilot, his involvement in combat and in Operation Market Garden, and some of his experiences as a prisoner of war.
