This collection is a typed memoir of Jack Brugh’s experiences during World War II, particularly as a prisoner of war in Germany. Brugh touches on his life prior to joining the military, his enlistment in 1943, basic training, and his time abroad in the European Theater of War. Brugh describes his imprisonment at Stalag IV-B during 1944-1945 following capture during the Battle of the Bulge and his subsequent escape and journey to rejoin American lines.

This collection includes photographs of the Third Army (U.S. Army) in Tennessee. Towns depicted include Shelbyville and Haley, Bedford County, Tenn. The photographs are of maneuvers, soldiers, and the Army’s camp, dated 1941.

The memoir provides several details about his experiences as a child in Grand Rapids, Michigan as well his experience in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Also included in the memoir are post-war stories of what his life was like after the war.

This collection consists of an April 27, 2000 interview with Thomas N. Parlon for the Veteran's Oral History Project at the Center for the Study of War and Society, Department of History, University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Parlon discusses his participation in the National Guard and his service in the Pacific.

This collection contains correspondence of World War II veteran Turner E. Kirkland writing about his experiences in the Pacific Theater of war.

The Newsmap Collection, 1944, consists of several weekly publications by the United States Army. These publications contain weekly news from the World War II front, maps of maneuvers, progress, setbacks, etc., as well as countless photos. The back of each Newsmap showcases a particular area of military life.

This collection houses a U. S. Army audit of the University of Tennessee's facilities conducted during World War II as well as the audit report and a workpaper.

This collection consists of a program for a memorial service held on October 20, 1946 to honor University of Tennessee alumni and students lost during World War II and a letter from University President James D. Hoskins to the family of Walter Welch Gentry inviting them to attend. The program includes poems, the order of services, and a list of deceased alumni and students.

He recounts his experiences in various battles and gives details about the movements of his unit and what he describes as the "worst night of his life," when some of his fellow soldiers were captured and killed in Germany.

This folder contains the transcript of an interview with W. Lewis Wood, dated 3 August 2002, conducted in Memphis, Tenn., by Kurt Piehler and Nashwa Van Houts of the Veteran's Oral History Project. Wood discusses his childhood in Memphis, his experiences as an engineering student at the University of Tennessee, and his time serving in the US Navy and Army during World War II and the Korean War, respectively.
