Andrew Morrison Deposition

Abstract

This affidavit was taken in Davidson County, Tennessee and sent to the Brackenridge County Circuit Court in Hardinburgh, Kentucky for use in the case of Kemmell vs. Chenault. In it, Andrew Morrison testifies to the condition of the Ohio River during October of 1817.

Ann E. Hannum Letter

Abstract

Ann Eliza (White) Hannum wrote this letter to her son, Dr. Frank H. Hannum, on March 14, 1862. In it, she speaks of a married man who has been living in illicit intercourse with a woman. She also discusses the many men going to war, saying that "it is a deplorable condition, when will god see fit to end this terrible war. Oh my son turn your thoughts to god and prepare for when some time his summons comes whether in a peaceful bed or terrible field."

Anna Chavannes Journal

Abstract

Anna Chavannes begins her account of her emigration from Switzerland to Wartburg, Tennessee with her family's departure from Havre on May 3, 1848. She goes on to describe their boat trip with the Gouffon, Guyaz, and Sterchi families, their landing in New York and transfer to the Southerner, and their overland trip through Chattanooga to Wartburg, Tennessee. This item is a transcription of the original and was translated from the French by Emma S. Robinson in 1930.

Anne Romaine Audiotape Collection

This collection contains 46 audio tapes, primarily of interviews collected by Anne Romaine for her unfinished biography on Alex Haley. There are also some made by the Haley Museum, lectures given by Alex Haley, and interviews of Anne Romaine herself. Primarily, the interviews are conducted by Ms. Romaine with relatives, friends, and others, including George Haley, Rodnell Collins, Dr. C. Eric Lincoln, Fred Montgomery, and many others.

Anthony Foster Letter

Abstract

In this letter to David Henley, Anthony Foster reports that several days previously F. B. Sappington and Dr. May "differed and fought." Although the duel was conducted "gentlemanly" on both side, Sappington was killed. May fled to Knoxville, and Foster is now asking Henley to advance May any money that he might need. The verso contains a note indicating that the letter was to be hand delivered by May.
