A single carte de visite depicting Abraham Lincoln. Mathew Brady made the original portrait that serves as the foundation of this carte de visite. Either Brady or another photographer added a dark wreath around the image, likely on the occasion of Lincoln's assassination.

The papers include days of birth and death, titles, and places of residence within the family histories. Family origins and members are also listed in chronological order.

Cave Johnson Letters

C.C. Giers Freemason Portraits

Abstract

This collection includes twenty-one sepia portraits of Nashville-area members of the Knights Templar, an order of the Freemasons, taken sometime between 1867 and 1877. The photos were produced at the studio of C. C. Giers, and feature red hand-tinted details as well as the name of each man on the reverse.

Célestin Pierre Cambiaire Letters

Abstract

This collection contains four letters, typed and handwritten, by Célestin Pierre Cambiaire. Cambiaire sent them in 1933 and 1934 inquiring after academic positions and opportunities, such as asking for recommendations of publishing companies for his work and possible teaching positions. The letters vary in length and topic, but they all demonstrate Cambiaire's desire for involvement in the historical community and his interest in early French and American history.
