Kittie Ebert Certificate, 1881

Scope and Contents Note From the Collection:

The State Normal Institute of Tennessee issued this second grade teaching certificate to Kittie Ebert during the first session of 1881. It is signed by W. S. Doak, state superintendent, and E. Alexander, secretary. The collection also includes a small card certifying that Ebert was admittent on Juuly 1, 1881.

Cloide E. Brehm Letter, 1949 November 14

Scope and Contents Note From the Collection: Cloide Brehm wrote this letter to Eddie Sousa on November 14, 1949 as part of his response to Sousa's earlier request for an autographed photograph. Sousa was then confined in the Arroyo Del Valle Sanatorium in Livermore, California and had made a hobby of collecting autographed photographs of American college presidents in order to pass the time. Brehm had already sent the requested photograph along with a copy of the current Volunteer but was still curious to know just what made you think...

This collection consists of photostats of a letter and land calculations for the East Tennessee College campus. The correspondence is from Newton Napoleon Polk to his brother John dated March 16, 1878. In the letter, Polk recalls his memories from East Tennessee College.

Published from 1882-1884, this set of issues includes volume 2-3, as well as issues from the Philo Star's volume 1 and 2. Subjects of these newsletters include activities and happenings on the University of Tennessee campus, administrative news, opinion sections, essays, prose, and poetry. The editors for the Chi Delta Crescent at the time were Editor-in-Chief Wm. G. McAdoo Jr., Associate Editors J.N. Bogart and Jno. Wooten, Local Editors, W.B. Kennedy and D.R. Coward.

Scope and Contents Note From the Collection:

This collection consists of four post cards of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville circa 1910-1912, referred to as Tennessee State University, Knoxville. Locations include a road leading to Humes Hall; Morrill Hall; the Main Entrance to the University via the Hill; and the YMCA building. The cards were printed by the Albertype Co. in Brooklyn, NY.
