This collection houses two newsletters from the National Organization for Women's Memphis Chapter discussing NOW's fight for women's rights in Tennessee. This collection consists of a letter written by James Strawbridge from a floating hospital in Nashville, Tenn., on June 10, 1863. The letter mentions a dispatch from Jefferson Davis that was captured by General Blair's division, and describes a battle between the Rebels and a black regiment, who he says "fight with a degree of intelligence and determination unequaled by the whites."

This collection consists of two letters from Samuel Andrew Baker of Company E of the 44th Indiana Infantry written on January 28, 1862, and July 26, 1863. In the first letter, written to his father from South Carrollton, Kentucky, Baker discusses being fired upon while on guard duty. In the second letter, written to his brother-in-law from McMinnville, Tennessee, Baker mentions having his pocket picked while swimming and describes Fourth of July celebrations.

Scope and Contents Note From the Collection:

This collection consists of a letter written by William H. Green, of the 45th New York Regiment, Company F, to his brother, from Nashville, Tenn. on February 16, 1865. In the letter, Green writes of a large battle that took place between the Rebel General Hood and the Union General Thomas. He also states that the city is under martial law and mentions that most of the men in his regiment are either killed or in prison.
