Scope and Contents Note From the Collection:

This collection houses a single letter from Daniel Davis to his brother. In it, Davis details his regiment's march from Nashville to Dechard, Tennessee (southeast of Tullahoma, Tennessee.) At that time, the 46th Pennsylvania was detailed to guard sections of the Nashville-Chattanooga Railroad.

This collection houses one letter from George Lewis to his sister, Naracessa Hampton, of Casvade, Virginia. Lewis focuses on the plight of his sister, whose husband was apparently compelled to serve in the Confederate Army. He offers her advice and instructs her to keep her household in good condition.

Scope and Contents Note From the Collection: This collection contains a letter from Amos Guthrie to his father in New Rumley Township, Ohio written while Guthrie was stationed in Knoxville, Tennessee. Guthrie attacks Copperheads and specifically complains of New Rumley Township's history of voting for Copperhead officials. Guthrie recounts seeing General Scholfield, saying his hair is already tinged with grey although he is only 35 years old. This collection contains two letters from Edgar Arthurs, one to his sister and one to his brother. Both letters were written from Columbia, Tennessee, while his unit was marching from Nashville, Tennessee to Athens, Alabama. Arthurs speaks of the nisecountry. He reports that the soldiers had no problem getting forage, having plenty of melons and apples. He seems to think his regiment have left Nashville this time for good.

Scope and Contents Note From the Collection:

This collection contains one letter written by Ben Mason while he was stationed on the Tennessee-Virginia border in Bristol-Goodson. In the letter, Mason expresses his hope that the regiment remains in Bristol-Goodson over the winter because it suites me better than marching about and lyin out without tents. The regiment was detailed to guard a pork killing station.
