The collection contains a single letter, written to Johan (?) Graf from the Stifel & Pfeiffer Brewery in Nashville, Tennessee (January 15, 1873). Letter written during Reconstruction by Stuart County, Tenn. resident in 1867. The letter inquires about the whereabouts Charly and Ada, two individuals the writer has failed to locate. The letter appears to be written by a family member, as the writer re-counts who has been married, jailed, and other local happenings.

Student Absence Excuses and Financial Aid Correspondence

The first section of this collection houses the excuses that students submitted to explain their absence from either class or chapel. Some claimed the standard excuse of illness, while others were considerably more creative. In this letter to her third cousin John Bell Brownlow, Sue L. Clotworthy outlines the genealogy of their mothers' families (primarily the Gaines and the Taylors), which connects them to Presidents Zachary Taylor and James Madison. She also discusses the importance of genealogy, which can even "trace our Gaines line [...]" to him, Adam and to royalty.

Superconducting Super Collider Feasibility Reports and Proposals

This collection houses reports and proposals discussing the feasibility of locating a superconducting super collider in Tennessee. The first section consists of 22 reports issued by the State of Tennessee. The second section houses 23 volumes printed by the Department of Energy concerning the super collider's environmental impact on the region. The third section is composed of reports from the Universities Research Association appraising and supporting the collider project.
