This collection houses official papers created during the presidencies of Thomas W. Humes (1865-1883), Charles W. Dabney (1887-1904), Brown Ayres (1904-1919), Harcourt Morgan (1919-1934) and James D. Hoskins (1934-1946) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. These materials include correspondence from each of the five presidents, subject files, faculty lists, and materials documenting university activities dating from the end of the Civil War to the end of World War II.

This collection houses papers (including correspondence, subject files, and other materials) created by the Office of the President during the tenures of Charles W. Dabney (1887-1904), Brown Ayres (1904-1919), Harcourt Morgan (1919-1934), and James D. Hoskins (1934-1946). The bulk of the collection dates from the Morgan and Hoskins administrations. These papers were formerly referred to as the Transferred Files (Folders 1-799) and the Retired Files (Folders 800-1012).

This collection houses two scrapbooks produced by the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Each contains a summation of the University's history from 1794 to 1897 on the inside cover and official University photographs of the main buildings on campus. The first scrapbook was never used but the second belonged to University of Tennessee student Harriette Locke Arnell and documents her time at the University from September 1919 to June 1920.

Lillard, Jr.) from 1962, football schedules for 1911, 1915, and 1938, a University of Tennessee calendar (including photographs) for 1914, an alumni pin, and two copies of the Alert Newsletter from 1962.

This collection consists of two reports prepared by Dr. William E. Cole of the Department of Sociology at the University of Tennessee. The first report from 1935 outlines the first study done about unemployment in Knox County, Tennessee and was prepared with the assistance of Dr. Frank B. Ward of the Department of Economics. The second report is a supplement to a study regarding the administration of the State Department of Institutions and Public Welfare, dated February 20, 1939.

All of the bids were originally sent to the director of the Physical Plant, opened, and sent to the secretary of the Board of Trustees for review.
