This collection consists of a two-page report entitled Report of Absent without leave from 9th Tenn. Regt. Commanded by Col. H. L. Douglass. It is divided into five columns: Company, Name, Date of Absence, Residence, and Probable Present Locality. The report was prepared by Junius L. Hall, the unit's adjutant, and is signed by H. L. Douglass, the unit's commander.

In a December 28, 1899 manuscript, William L. Walker, a private with the 10th Tennessee Cavalry, CSA, provides a list of the members of Captain Thomas S. Easley's Company G.

In this letter to Joseph Mayberry in Knoxville, Tennessee, Andrew Bishop (who is being held as a prisoner of war at Point Lookout, Maryland) appeals to Mayberry's generous spirit for some small pecuniary assistance ... to get some small necessary articles. Bishop served with the 3rd East Tennessee Infantry (CSA) before his capture. Researchers should note that Mayberry should most likely be spelled Mabry.

This collection contains research material (photocopies of documents, transcriptions of originals, correspondence, illustrations, and articles) from 1984 to 1992 surrounding Dr. R. B. Rosenburg's For the Sake of My Country: The Diary of Col. W. W. Ward, 9th Tennessee Cavalry, Morgan's Brigade, CSA.

E. H. Rennolds maintained these two diaries while he was serving with the 5th Tennessee Infantry (CSA) in 1863 and 1864 during the Civil War. In them, he describes his service in Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee, including his participation in the battles of Spring Hill, Franklin, and Nashville.

Felix Kirk wrote this letter to his father, John Kirk, from Knoxville on November 14, 1861. In it, he discuses a recent illness, mentions "some old union devil who burned a bridge," and describes his unit's recent activities in Chattanooga and Knoxville. The reverse of the letter's final page bears a printed poem entitled "Dixie: Southrons, hear your Country Call You!"

This collection consists of a letter from G. W. Harral, written in a Confederate camp near Bristol, Tennessee on April 6, 1864, to his friend James Looke. Harral discusses high morale among the troops, speculates as to where they will go, and expresses his desire to remain in touch with his friends.

This collection houses one letter from George Lewis to his sister, Naracessa Hampton, of Casvade, Virginia. Lewis focuses on the plight of his sister, whose husband was apparently compelled to serve in the Confederate Army. He offers her advice and instructs her to keep her household in good condition.

This collection houses a letter dated January 25, 1865 from Assistant Inspector General Major Henry Bryan (then stationed in Tombigbee River, Alabama) to Colonel George William Brent documenting the artillery units of the Confederate Army of Tennessee shortly before the Confederate surrender.

In this diary, Henry Warren describes his service with the 20th Tennessee Infantry Regiment (CSA) in Tennessee and Kentucky. A document signed by Governor Isham G. Harris inside the diary nominates Warren as a Drill Master and orders him to report for duty. Both of these items have been transcribed onto a CD housed with the collection.

J. P. Hollowell wrote this letter to his sister, Sallie Hollowell, from camp in Bowling Green, Kentucky. In it, he mentions that his unit has been looking for a fight, but their location is too well fortified. Hollowell also apologizes for not being home for Christmas and says that he wants a new pair of pants.

This collection contains a letter from Confederate soldier Jason Cooper, dated December 5, 1863 from Dalton, Georgia. Written "To his dear friend Farley," Cooper writes about the Confederate evacuation of Chattanooga.

The James K. P. Sayler Papers, 1857-1943, contain correspondence, writings and speeches, bills, contracts, and other papers related to the life of Sayler, a Confederate soldier stationed in Vicksburg, MS, during the Civil War and a teacher Romeo, Tenn. Among the topics discussed are pre-Civil War politics (particularly in Missouri), military life and movement during the war, and educational and religious theory.

Jas. F. Fletcher Jr. wrote this letter to Major E. S. Burford in Dalton, Georgia on April 26, 1864. It refers to a number of affidavits (not included) documenting a black mare that was stolen from his property by Federal soldiers.

In this letter, Jennie McKay discusses her life on the Confederate homefront in Missouri. She speaks of her home being burned, family members currently serving with the Confederate Army, what she considers the inflated prices of various goods, and the death of her older sister Christiana.

This collection contains sections of three documents bearing the autographs of General John C. Brown, General Bushrod Johnson, and General Nathan Bedford Forrest.

This collection consists of a supply order given by John W. Frazer of the 9th U.S. Infantry, during the Civil War. The request is dated August 31, 1859 from Camp Osoyoos in Washington Territory.

M. H. Owen wrote this letter to his sister from Fort Pillow on March 22, 1862. In it, he describes his trip from Columbus, Kentucky to Fort Pillow and mentions the other regiments stationed there with him.
