Stanley J. Folmsbee Letters

Abstract These five letters were written to Dr. Stanley Folmsbee between 1942 and 1945. In 1942, Ed Glass discusses the USAF, some of his predictions for the war, and his work with the Office of Price Administration. In 1944, Theron Alexander writes two letters, one thanking Folmsbee for using his thesis (written at the University of Tennessee in 1939) and one describing his life in New Guinea. Thurman E. Johnson Collection

Overview

This collection contains military documents, naval photos, correspondence, and more regarding Thurman E. Johnson's World War II military service. Included is “One Person's Experience in the Pacific Theater of Operations,” a four-page typed account of Johnson’s experiences during the war. Among the correspondence are excerpts printed from letters Johnson wrote in 1945 and copies of Johnson’s many return addresses during the war.

William E. Bobbitt Memoir

Abstract

This memoir, written in 1996, is William Bobbitt's account of his time fighting in the Pacific Theater during World War II. The manuscript traces his military career from his training with a National Guard Unit in 1941 to his discharge in 1945. During his service, Bobbitt was stationed on many Pacific islands and faced combat in the Philippines.

William H. Ettinger Collection

Overview

This collections contains four photographs and and a few documents regarding William Ettinger and his military service in World War II with the 161st Signal Photographic Company. Three of the photographs contain captions and show Ettinger in New Guinea in 1943 with his film and photography equipment. The documents are photocopies and include identification cards and passes.

Abstract This collection consists primarily of two scrapbooks documenting William H. Hunt's service in the Army Corps of Engineers between 1942 and 1946. The larger scrapbook contains three professional portraits of Hunt in uniform, snapshots, magazine and newspaper clippings dating from 1945 and 1984, a telegraph that Hunt sent to his parents, a copy of a letter of commendation, and a propaganda leaflet that the Japanese dropped while he as stationed on Leyte.
