The tract is adjacent to the Holston River and is bisected by Crozier Street and nearby First Creek. It extends approximately 154 poles to the east and 182 poles to the west. This document (dated October 14, 1818 and signed by Governor Joseph McMinn) describes a tract of land that the State of Tennessee granted to Josiah Patty on November 23, 1809. This tract measured 33 acres and 3 rods and was located south of the French Broad and Holston rivers. It later passed into the Gourley family, where it remained for several generations.

The document is witnessed by His Excellency Richard Dobbs Spaight, Governor, Captain General, and commander in Chief of North Carolina.
