Forrest O. Shoup "Tennesseeans at War" Manuscript
This collection is a printed manuscript for “Tennesseans at War: World War II” written in November 1985 largely by Forrest Shoup. The publication was compiled as an effort by the Education Department of the Tennessee State Museum and was used in conjunction with their traveling exhibits program. As stated in the document's introduction: "Written for educators and their students, this manual will serve to acquaint readers with the contributions of the Volunteer State in World War II."
Forrest O. Shoup’s The Flawed and the Damned
A bound copy of The Flawed and the Damned, a publication written by Tennessee veteran Forrest O. Shoup in 1979 that examines the history and development of the Schutzstaffel (SS).
Frances Lovelace Collection
This collection documents Frances Lovelace's World War II service in WAVES. It contains copies of photographs, an invitation to the launching of the USS Hitchiti, detachment papers, news articles about Lovelace, and a short manuscript by Lovelace penned in 1973 entitled "Crisis 1973."

This collection contains copies of photographs, copies of newspaper articles, and documents related to World War II veteran Fred V. Brown’s experience in the Pacific Theater of war.
Freytag Family Papers
This collection gives a glimpse into the life of the Freytag family, a miltary family from Wartburg, TN. The collection includes correspondence, press clippings, photographs, and certificates regarding the Freytag children, Albert Jr., Fred, and Maxwell. Albert Jr. was enlisted in the U.S. Marines, Fred was enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and Maxwell was enlisted in the U.S. Army. All materials are photocopies, donated by the family matriarch, Ethel H. Freytag.
George Lawson Collection
This collection includes a transcript of an interview with George Lawson, World War II veteran, and the subsequent news article written about his service.
George M. Valentine Collection
This collection documents the World War II service of George M. Valentine. It contains papers such as of newspaper clippings, a presidential citation to the 761st Tank Battalion, reunion and memorial service programs, and photographs, most of which are photocopies. It also includes a typed transcript of an oral history interview with Valentine conducted in 1987.
Guy F. Landers Diary
A single handwritten diary (photocopy) of Guy Landers from his time in World War II. The diary includes short daily entries of Landers’ activities from August 1944 through July 1945 before and during his time on the USS Arkansas.
Hal Holmes Collection
This collection contains a copy of "Hal Holmes: The War Years--WWII," a biography of Holmes written by his wife, Margarette Harrison Holmes, in 1990. The bulk of the book contains photocopies of letters Holmes penned to his wife during his wartime service. Also included are photocopies of photographs and newspaper clippings in addition to biographical information about Holmes. The book is approximately 400 pages in length.
Hogins Family Collection
This collection consists of correspondence, photographs, press clippings, recollections, and ephemera collected by Evelyn Hogins concerning World War II. It also includes material concerning Evelyn's mother, Annie Hogins, and Evelyn's brothers: Clifford, Lawrence "Buster", and Marshall Hogins. The brothers all served in the U.S. military. A significant portion of the collection is comprised of photocopies.
Howard O. Lane Papers
This collection consists of a folder that contains letters and a transcription of the diary belonging to Howard O. Lane, bomber in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
Hubert and Bethel Whaley Collection
This collection documents the World War II service and experiences of spouses Hubert and Bethel Whaley. Included are correspondence, military documents, propaganda leaflets, and postcards from the time of the war. Also included is a typed manuscript by Bethel entitled “Reminiscences of World War II” written in 1991.
