This collection consists of a manuscript titled, Charles S. Lindsay, Bomb Disposal Officer Coming of Age in Okinawa by Paul N. Birdwell and Charles S. Lindsay's memoir South of Yontan Okinawa. Also included is a transcript of an interview with Charles S. Lindsay by Paul N. Birdwell.

Chester Marshall Papers

Abstract

This collection is comprised of photographs of the 73rd Bomb Wing, stationed in Saipan during World War II. The photos include images of B-29 bombers as they were sent on raids to Japan, as well as official Air Force photographs, aerial shots, and photographs of the members of the 878th Bomb Squadron. The collection also contains Chester Marshall's personal military documents including orders and memorandums. Two book jackets are also included from his published works.

This collection houses a typescript of a speech, a newspaper clipping, and a photograph documenting the Daughters of the American Colonists' presentation of a memorial red oak tree to the University of Tennessee to commemorate those who died in World War II. The tree was planted at the entrance to the University's Farm and was intended to be the first of an avenue of memorial trees.
