Abstract

This collection consists of a letter written by a Civil War Soldier, Nathan, to his sister on May 26, 1862. The letter was sent from Columbia, Tenn. to Kansasville, Wis., and was addressed to Rachel Crawford. Nathan writes of past correspondence with his sister, and others. He also tells of some fighting he has heard coming from Pittsburgh Landing, Tenn. and Corinth, MS.

United Campus Workers Fliers and Advertisements

Abstract

This collection houses fliers and pamphlets urging University of Tennessee faculty and staff to join the United Campus Workers. This group worked to obtain better working conditions, routine and fair evaluations, and full insurance, among other rights, for all UT employees. The pamphlets also document the unfavorable reaction to the Tennessee Governor’s, UT President’s and UT Board of Trustees’ plans for implementing pay raises.

United States Postal Service Call for Proposals

Abstract This manuscript consists of a printed call for bids to carry the mail from Loudon to Chattanooga and back three times a week, a form for submitting a bid for the contract, and an envelope addressed to William G. Brownlow. On the bottom of the call for bids, John Bell Brownlow has written that it had been authorized for publication, and on the back he has written that he will explain these when he sees the recipient. United States Revenue Marine General Order

Abstract

This order was sent to the officers of the Revenue Marines and details procedures for responding to the death of Andrew Jackson. The officers were to wear mourning badges for six months, fly their flags at half mast for one week, and fire twenty-one guns at noon of the day following receipt of the order.
