Albert F. Tramposch Military Decorations

Abstract This collection houses four medals and their original presentation boxes awarded to Albert F. Tramposch for his service in the Army Air Force (529th Squadron, 311th Fighter Group) during World War II. The awards include the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Alfred Roessel/German POW Letter

Abstract This collection consists of a letter from Alfred Roessel, a German POW being held in Camp Crossville, Tenn., to his wife, Irmgard Roessel, in Leipzig, Germany. It discusses the weather in Crossville, the camp's scenery, and various of Roessel's activities. It also lets Irmgard know that her "lovely photograph" arrived safely, and conveys greetings to his family. The letter is written on aerogram stationary labelled in English, German, Italian, and Japanese and bears a U. S. Censor's stamp.

American National Red Cross Cap or Beanie Knitting Pattern

Overview Collection contains a one-page pamphlet distributed by the American National Red Cross in 1941. It provides instructions for knitting a "cap or beanie," with descriptions for two and four needle styles. The pamphlet lists materials needed for the project, and an image of a finished cap is printed on the back.

Abstract This collection houses student records, correspondence, course descriptions, curricula, and other materials documenting the Army Specialized Training Program at the University of Tennessee between 1943 and 1945. Each of the student records are entered on Form No. 831 and show the student's full name, army serial number, home address, date of birth, classes taken, and grades earned.

Arthur B. Cox Jr.’s “Escape through Enemy Territory”

Overview This collection includes one photocopy of Arthur B. Cox Jr.’s autobiography, “Escape through Enemy Territory.” The story details Cox’s service with the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the European Theater, including his experience of being shot down over France, spending time with a French family before escaping to Spain, and spending a month in a Spanish prison before being rescued.

Abstract In this book, John Richard Blanton describes his childhood in Unionville, Tennessee, his education at the University of Tennessee in the 1920s, and his later career as a teacher and school administrator in primary and secondary schools in Spring City, Nashville, and Jackson, Tennessee. He also provides some information about his service in World War II and about his ancestry, including a genealogical chart of the Blanton and Crisp families.
